Streatham's Post Office inside TG Jones at 180-182 Streatham High Road will close, with no date yet. Streatham Hill, 0.6 miles away, offers the same services.
Streatham’s High Road Post Office is to close. The branch is inside the TG Jones shop at 180-182 Streatham High Road. The Post Office told customers in a letter published on Friday 23 October that it is “due to close shortly before the store closes”.
Streatham is about two miles south of Clapham Common.
No date has been set. The Post Office says it is working with TG Jones to confirm one, and that it is “likely to be in the next few months”. The letter is on its consultation hub page for the branch, branch number 141001.
The closure follows the restructuring plan of TG Jones, the Post Office’s retail partner in the shop. The Post Office says it is “working hard to find a location nearby” and is “in the early stages of reviewing applications to run the Post Office branch”.
Where to go instead
The letter names two alternatives:
| Branch | Distance | Opening hours | Services |
|---|---|---|---|
| Streatham Hill Post Office, 102 Streatham Hill, SW2 4UQ | about 0.6 miles | Mon to Fri 10am to 5.30pm, Sat 10am to 2pm, closed Sunday | a similar range |
| Leigham Vale Post Office, 21 Leigham Vale, SW16 2JH | about 0.7 miles | Mon to Sat 8am to 8pm, Sun 9am to 8pm | a similar range, but not the full range of travel money, Passport Check and Send, vehicle tax or on-demand travel insurance |
The Post Office says Streatham Hill has a wide door and level access. Leigham Vale has a wide door and a ramp with a handrail. Both have pay-by-phone parking nearby and local buses.
What it means for you
- Nothing changes yet. The High Road counter keeps trading until the Post Office announces a date. Posters in the branch will give it.
- Passports and vehicle tax: Streatham Hill is the named alternative that offers the same range. Leigham Vale does not do Passport Check and Send or vehicle tax.
- Evenings and Sundays: Leigham Vale opens every day until 8pm. Streatham Hill shuts at 2pm on Saturdays and all day Sunday.
How to have your say
This is filed as an unplanned closure. Under the Post Office’s own rules, whether to replace the service “will be a commercial decision” and “will not be subject to public consultation”, the letter says. You can still send questions and comments to its National Consultation Team:
- email comments@postoffice.co.uk
- write to FREEPOST Your Comments
- call 03452 66 01 15
Comments are not kept confidential unless you mark them “In Confidence”. The Post Office says it will write to local representatives again once it has news about a replacement. We will update this story when it does.
