Clapham News is an independent news and information site for Clapham and the London Borough of Lambeth. We report what the public record shows and keep the practical local pages accurate and easy to find.
The borough
Lambeth as a place name really means the riverside around Lambeth Palace, and almost nobody four miles south uses it about themselves. So we write about the places people actually name: Clapham, Brixton, Stockwell, Vauxhall, Kennington, Oval and Waterloo in the north, and Herne Hill, Tulse Hill, Gipsy Hill, West Norwood and Streatham in the south. Clapham itself is split between two boroughs, and on anything to do with services we are careful to say which side of the line we mean.
What we report
Lambeth Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, and company filings in The Gazette. In a borough with this much development and this many licensed premises, the planning and licensing registers are where most of what changes is recorded first, so that is where we spend most of our time.
How we work
Every fact carries a link to its source, so you can check the original instead of trusting us. Where a record is unclear, we say it is unclear. We write in plain British English, we do not run press releases as reporting, and we do not republish other outlets’ photographs.
