Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Lambeth held six ceremonies last year, from Kennington Park at 10.45am to Windrush Square at 2pm. Times due in October.
Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November. Armistice Day, the two minutes’ silence at 11am on the eleventh, is the following Wednesday 11 November.
Lambeth has not yet published its 2026 arrangements. Last year the council put them out on 16 October, three weeks before the day, so the second half of October is when to look. What follows is what the council itself published for 2025, which is the best guide to where and when to stand this year. Everything here was checked on 5 September 2026.
Where Lambeth held its ceremonies in 2025
The council’s own notice, “Marking Remembrance Sunday across the borough”, listed six, with the Mayor of Lambeth and the Leader of the council attending across the day:

There is no Clapham Common ceremony on that list. Clapham residents who want a civic service go to Stockwell, Kennington or Brixton.
The Windrush Square event is the borough’s main one, and it is ticketed
The day starts with a parade from Lambeth Town Hall to Windrush Square for a wreath laying. The public event follows in the square from 2pm at the African and Caribbean War Memorial, run in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and community partners, with a remembrance parade, a wreath laying ceremony and what the council calls moments of community reflection.
Note the practical detail that trips people up: in 2025 this was ticketed, free but booked through Eventbrite in advance. If Lambeth repeats that, book rather than turn up.
The council said the square would be attended by serving volunteers, veterans, youth groups, faith organisations and the wider community, honouring the contributions of African, Caribbean and Commonwealth service personnel alongside everyone else who served.
The memorial itself
The African and Caribbean War Memorial stands against the brick wall on the southern side of Windrush Square, a bronze obelisk set in front of a pale stone triangle, with a bronze plinth in front of it. Its inscription reads:
In Memory Of The Service Men And Women From Africa And The Caribbean Who Served Alongside The Forces Of The British Commonwealth And Her Allies During WWI And WWII
Beneath that, in smaller letters, sits the line the memorial is known for: Remembering the Forgotten. The plinth in front carries the units, among them the West India Regiment and British West Indies Regiment, air crew and ground crew of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force, the West Indies Auxiliary Territorial Service, the Caribbean Regiment, and the Bermuda Militia Artillery and Infantry, closing with “And to all the Forgotten”.
It is the reason the borough’s main ceremony is held in Brixton rather than outside the town hall.
Poppy appeal and getting there
Lambeth does not run the poppy appeal; the Royal British Legion does, through volunteers outside stations and in supermarkets from late October. If you want to sell rather than buy, the Legion recruits collectors through its own site from September.
Windrush Square is directly outside Brixton station on the Victoria line, so walk or take the tube. Around 2pm on Remembrance Sunday, Effra Road and the square will have stewards and a parade route to work around. Lambeth has not published a road closure order for the 2026 parade. It did not publish one last year either; the parade is stewarded rather than formally closed off.

Agents Monument on Lambeth Palace Road, Albert Carr Gardens in Streatham, Stockwell Clock War Memorial Gardens, Windrush Square and Gipsy Hill Church on the Vincennes Estate. Stockwell at 11am is the closest to Clapham.
