Clapham South's first Halloween shelter tour runs from 21 October at £39, Brixton Windmill is free on the 25th, and Herne Hill fireworks are on the 31st.
Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, and the three big things near Clapham are all ticketed in advance: a new Halloween tour of the wartime shelter under Clapham South, the Herne Hill Velodrome bonfire and fireworks, and the Clapham Grand’s party. For younger children, Brixton Windmill has a free afternoon on the Sunday before. Lambeth council has nothing of its own on its events calendar for the night.

Clapham South: ghosts of the Underground
The London Transport Museum’s Hidden London team is running its first ever Halloween tour, in the deep-level shelter eleven floors below Clapham South station. It uses an entrance that is not part of the usual Clapham South shelter tour and covers areas that tour does not.
According to the museum’s tour page, read on 28 September, the upcoming dates are:
- Wednesday 21, Thursday 22, Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October
- Wednesday 28 October
Tours run at 12.45pm, 2.45pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm and last 75 minutes. Tickets are £39, or £36 for concessions and children, and include half-price entry to the London Transport Museum within a month of the tour.
What it is, in the museum’s words: wartime testimony from Londoners who sheltered on the network, recorded interviews with current and former Underground staff about “unexplained sounds, unexpected sightings”, and a guide in character with lighting, sound and projections. The museum is clear that it is not a haunted house or a scare attraction, with no scare actors.
Before you book:
- Ages 10 and over only, with an adult. The museum says it was written for adults and deals with wartime casualties and loss.
- 180 steps down and back up a spiral staircase, the height of 11 floors. There is no step-free access and the tour cannot take wheelchair users.
- Flat, closed shoes or you are turned away. Fancy dress is allowed, but no full face masks, fake blood, props, long capes or bulky costumes.
- Bring photo ID and your booking email.
- Meet outside the M&S Food Hall on Balham Hill, SW12 9EA, two minutes from Clapham South station, 15 minutes before your time.
Halloween at Brixton Windmill, Sunday 25 October
The Friends of Windmill Gardens run a free family Halloween afternoon in Windmill Gardens, off Blenheim Gardens, SW2 5DA, from 1pm to 4pm. Entry is free. What is on, from the organiser’s page:
- Lantern carving, £3 a pre-prepared pumpkin. It is a drop-in workshop for up to eight families at a time, and children must be at least 7 and with an adult.
- Spooky stories for ages 5 to 11 inside the windmill at 1.30pm and 2.45pm. There is no booking: sign up on the sheet on the day.
Herne Hill Velodrome Halloween Fireworks, Saturday 31 October
The Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome have their bonfire and fireworks on Halloween itself this year. Their event page, re-checked on 28 September, gives the running order:
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 5.00pm | Gates open |
| 5.45pm | Fancy dress competition |
| 6.00pm | Bonfire lit |
| 6.20pm | Fire eaters |
| 7.00pm | Fireworks display |
| 7.20pm | LED dance show |
| 9.30pm | Event closes |
Tickets are £13 for adults plus £1 booking fee, £8 for 12 to 16 year olds plus 75p, and £1 for under 12s plus 50p. Under 12s must be with an adult. Tickets are advance only. There is no parking at the velodrome; walk from Herne Hill, North Dulwich or West Dulwich stations, or take the 3, 201 or 37 bus. Our Clapham fireworks page has the full detail, plus Dulwich on 7 November and Battersea Park on 7 and 8 November.
The Grand’s Massive Halloween Party, Saturday 31 October
For adults, the Clapham Grand on St John’s Hill runs its Halloween night from 10pm to 3am. Tickets guarantee entry only until 11.45pm, and last entry is 12.30am. The Grand says costumes are expected and hints it may turn away people who do not dress up.
When we checked on 5 October the Early Bat, first, second and third releases had sold out. Fourth release is £35 and final release £45. For age rules, the Grand points to its FAQs.
The Grand’s Halloween programme has more nights in the run-up, among them a Hocus Pocus movie night on Thursday 29 October and a Rocky Horror Picture Show movie night at 6pm on the 31st. The Twilight Drag Show on 21 October has sold out.
In Clapham Old Town, Venn St. Records on Venn Street, SW4 0BD, has an indie pop party, Mr Frightside, on the 31st with DJ Zed from 10pm to 2am: £10 before 9pm, £20 before 11pm, and limited door tickets at £25.
Half term and getting around
Halloween is the Saturday at the end of Lambeth’s October half term, 26 to 30 October; our half term page has the dates and what else is on for children. None of these events has a road closure, and none offers parking. If you are driving, our parking page sets out Lambeth’s controlled zones and their hours, and the roadworks and travel page carries the closures in force that week.
